Person
Oberto Doria
Oberto Doria was a Genoese admiral and statesman of the thirteenth century. From 1270 he shared power with Oberto Spinola as Captain of the People, a joint rule by the two great Ghibelline families that kept the Guelph nobles out of office. In 1284 he commanded the Genoese fleet that destroyed the Pisan navy at the Battle of Meloria, ending Pisa's maritime power.
