Odysseas Androutsos

1788–1825 · 19th century

Odysseas Androutsos was a Greek military leader of the War of Independence, active in eastern Central Greece. He won fame by holding off a much larger Ottoman force at the inn of Gravia in 1821, but his independent conduct brought him into conflict with the Areopagus and the provisional government. Accused of treason, he was imprisoned on the Acropolis of Athens and killed there in 1825.
