Oncenio

1919–1930 · 20th century

The Oncenio (Eleven Years) is the name for the second government of Augusto B. Leguía in Peru, from his coup of July 1919 to his overthrow in August 1930. Under the slogan of a New Fatherland, Leguía centralised power, persecuted opponents and financed roads, ports and the modernisation of Lima with heavy borrowing in the United States. The Great Depression ended the boom and his rule.
