1944 · 20th century · Also known as Belorussian strategic offensive · Part of the Second World War

Operation Bagration was the Soviet summer offensive of 1944 in Belarus, launched on 22–23 June. It destroyed most of the German Army Group Centre, one of the greatest defeats in German military history, and carried the Red Army to the Vistula and the borders of East Prussia by August. It began about two weeks after the Allied landings in Normandy.
