Orbelian dynasty

13th–15th century · 13th century

The Orbelians were an Armenian princely family who ruled much of Syunik and Vayots Dzor from the 13th to the 15th century. Branch of a family that had served the Georgian crown, they settled in Syunik under the Zakarid princes and later served the Mongols. Their rule saw a cultural revival, and the historian Stepanos Orbelian wrote a history of Syunik.
