Orbetello

Orbetello is a town in southern Tuscany, built on a narrow spit in the middle of a lagoon between the mainland and Monte Argentario. From 1557 it was the capital of the Spanish State of the Presidi, which ringed it with powerful fortifications, and it was joined to Tuscany in the Napoleonic period. Its lagoon is now a nature reserve.
