Ordenações Afonsinas
The Ordenações Afonsinas were the first general code of Portuguese law, completed around 1446 in the reign of Afonso V, after whom they are named. In five books they gathered royal laws, customs and rules from Roman and canon law. They were replaced by the Manueline Ordinances under Manuel I and the Philippine Ordinances of 1603, which stayed in force in Brazil until 1916.
