Leiria

Leiria is a city in central Portugal, between Lisbon and Coimbra. Afonso Henriques took it from the Moors and built its castle in 1135, and it became a royal residence. The Cortes met there in 1254, the first known Cortes with town representatives, and King Denis planted the nearby Pinhal de Leiria pine forest. It is now the capital of Leiria District.
