Østfold

Østfold is a region of south-eastern Norway on the eastern side of the Oslofjord, bordering Sweden, with towns such as Fredrikstad, Sarpsborg, Moss and Halden. In the Viking Age it formed the core of the petty kingdom of Vingulmark, and it was long a frontier exposed to Danish and Swedish attack. A county until 2020, it was merged into Viken and became a county again in 2024.
