Ottoman Hungary
Ottoman Hungary was the central and southern part of the medieval Kingdom of Hungary ruled by the Ottoman Empire from the capture of Buda in 1541 until the reconquest of the 1680s and 1690s. Organised mainly in the eyalets of Buda and Temesvár, it was a frontier zone of fortresses and depopulated plains. The Treaty of Karlowitz of 1699 confirmed its loss to the Habsburgs, except the Banat of Temesvár, taken in 1716–1718.
