Panton, Leslie and Company
Panton, Leslie and Company was a trading firm founded by Scottish Loyalist merchants, among them William Panton and John Leslie, that dominated the deerskin trade with the Creek, Seminole and other peoples of the south-east after 1783. Spain, unable to supply the trade itself, granted the firm a privileged position in Florida, and it extended large credit to the Native towns. Its debts were later settled by land cessions.
