Panticapaeum
Panticapaeum was an ancient Greek city on the site of modern Kerch in Crimea, founded by colonists from Miletus around 600 BCE. It became the capital of the Bosporan Kingdom, which controlled the Cimmerian Bosporus and exported grain to Athens. Mithridates VI of Pontus died there in 63 BCE. The remains of its acropolis lie on Mount Mithridates in the centre of Kerch.
