Spartocid dynasty

438–c. 108 BCE · 5th century BCE · Also known as Spartocids

The Spartocid dynasty ruled the Bosporan Kingdom on both sides of the Kerch Strait from 438 BCE until about 108 BCE. Founded by Spartocus I, its rulers called themselves archons of the Greek cities and kings of the native peoples. Under kings such as Leucon I and Paerisades I the kingdom exported great quantities of grain to Athens. The last Spartocid, Paerisades V, handed his realm to Mithridates VI of Pontus.
