Parikshit

Parikshit was a Kuru king of the late Vedic period, praised in a hymn of the Atharvaveda for the peace and prosperity of his realm. With his son Janamejaya he is credited by modern historians with making the Kuru state the dominant power of northern India. In the Mahabharata and the Puranas he is the grandson of Arjuna, who died from the bite of the serpent Takshaka.
