Pasión River
The Pasión River is a river of the Petén lowlands of northern Guatemala and a tributary of the Usumacinta. In the Classic Maya period it was a major trade route between the highlands and the lowlands, with cities such as Cancuén, Ceibal and Altar de Sacrificios along its banks. In the 8th century the kingdom of Dos Pilas fought to control the region.
