Phasis (town)

Phasis was an ancient Greek colony on the eastern Black Sea coast, founded by settlers from Miletus in the 6th century BCE near the mouth of the Phasis river (Rioni), close to modern Poti in Georgia. It was the main port of Colchis, linking the Greek world with the river route into the Caucasus, and later a Roman and Byzantine fortress.
