Piave
The Piave is a river of north-eastern Italy that flows from the Carnic Alps through the Veneto to the Adriatic Sea north-east of Venice. After the defeat at Caporetto in late 1917 the Italian army made a stand on its banks, and in June 1918 it repulsed a major Austro-Hungarian offensive there. The river became a national symbol of resistance, celebrated in the song La leggenda del Piave.
