Veneto
Veneto is a region of north-eastern Italy, with its capital at Venice, that also includes Padua, Verona, Vicenza and Treviso. It takes its name from the ancient Veneti and the Roman region of Venetia et Histria. Ruled largely by the Republic of Venice from the 15th century, it passed to Austria in 1797 and joined the Kingdom of Italy in 1866.
