Pitti Palace
The Pitti Palace is a Renaissance palace in Florence south of the Arno, begun in the 1450s for the banker Luca Pitti and bought in 1550 by Eleonora of Toledo, wife of Cosimo I de' Medici. Enlarged over the following centuries, it became the main residence of the grand dukes of Tuscany and later of the Savoy kings during Florence's time as Italian capital. It now houses several museums.
