Arcetri
Arcetri is a hilly district on the southern edge of Florence. Galileo Galilei moved there in 1631, to his villa Il Gioiello near the convent where his daughter was a nun, and after his condemnation by the Inquisition in 1633 he lived there under house arrest until his death in 1642. The Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory, founded in the nineteenth century, continues the area's scientific association.
