Piyamaradu

13th century BCE · 13th century BCE

Piyamaradu was a western Anatolian warlord of the 13th century BCE, known from Hittite texts such as the Tawagalawa letter and the Manapa-Tarhunta letter. Of uncertain origin, possibly a member of the royal house of Arzawa, he raided Hittite vassal lands from bases such as Millawanda (Miletus) with the support of the king of Ahhiyawa, usually identified with the Mycenaean Greeks. Hittite kings repeatedly failed to bring him to justice.
