Platt Amendment
The Platt Amendment was a 1901 rider to a United States army appropriations act that set the conditions for ending the American occupation of Cuba. Written into the Cuban constitution, it gave the United States the right to intervene in Cuba and to lease naval stations, including Guantánamo Bay. It justified the occupation of 1906–1909 and was abrogated in 1934.
