Poor Conrad

1514 · 16th century · Also known as Armer Konrad

Poor Conrad (Armer Konrad) was a peasant and townsmen's revolt in the Duchy of Württemberg in 1514, provoked by Duke Ulrich's new taxes on food and his heavy debts. The duke ended it partly by agreeing to the Treaty of Tübingen with the estates, which guaranteed their rights, and partly by force, executing the leaders. It was a forerunner of the German Peasants' War of 1524–1525.
