Pope Eugene IV
Eugene IV, born Gabriele Condulmer in Venice, was pope from 1431 to 1447. His reign was dominated by conflict with the Council of Basel, which deposed him and elected the antipope Felix V. He presided over the Council of Ferrara-Florence, which proclaimed a short-lived union with the Greek Orthodox Church in 1439, and he spent years in exile in Florence after a revolt in Rome.
