Pretoria Convention
The Pretoria Convention was the peace settlement signed on 3 August 1881 that ended the First Boer War. Britain restored self-government to the Transvaal, which it called the Transvaal State, but retained suzerainty, control of its foreign relations and a resident in Pretoria. Boer resentment of these limits led to its replacement by the London Convention of 1884.
