Delagoa Bay
Delagoa Bay, now Maputo Bay, is a large natural harbour on the coast of southern Mozambique. From the 16th century Portuguese, Dutch, Austrian and British traders competed for its ivory trade with the Tembe and other local chiefdoms. Its trade affected the rise of the Mthethwa and Zulu, and the Boer republics later sought it as their outlet to the sea.
