Qianling Mausoleum

684–706 · 7th century

The Qianling Mausoleum is the tomb complex of the Tang emperor Gaozong and his wife Wu Zetian, built into Mount Liang in Qian County, north-west of Xi'an in Shaanxi. Gaozong was buried there in 684 and Wu Zetian in 706. Its long spirit road is lined with stone statues of winged horses, officials and foreign envoys, and its main tomb is believed never to have been robbed.
