Tibetans

The Tibetans are a people native to the Tibetan Plateau, speaking Tibetic languages and traditionally following Tibetan Buddhism and the Bon religion. United by the Yarlung kings in the 7th century, they built the Tibetan Empire that rivalled Tang China, and later lived under the Dalai Lamas' Ganden Phodrang government. Today they live mainly in the Tibet Autonomous Region and neighbouring provinces of China, with communities in Nepal, India and Bhutan.
