Gansu Corridor
The Gansu Corridor, also called the Hexi Corridor, is a narrow strip of land in north-western China between mountains and desert, linking China with Central Asia. The Han Dynasty's seizure of it from the Xiongnu Empire deprived them of valuable grazing lands and opened the Silk Road.
