Raetian Limes

2nd–3rd century · 2nd century

The Raetian Limes was the fortified frontier of the Roman province of Raetia, running about 166 kilometres from the Danube near Eining in Bavaria west to its junction with the Upper Germanic Limes. Built from the 2nd century, it was later reinforced with a stone wall. Rome abandoned it around 260, during the crisis of the third century, and it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
