Reich Chamber of Culture

1933–1945 · 20th century · Also known as Reichskulturkammer

The Reich Chamber of Culture was set up in September 1933 under Joseph Goebbels to control cultural life in Nazi Germany. Writers, musicians, artists, actors, film-makers and journalists had to belong to one of its seven chambers in order to work, and Jews and politically suspect people were excluded, driving many into exile.
