Rigsrådet
The Rigsrådet, or Council of the Realm, was the council of nobles and bishops that shared power with the king in medieval and early modern Denmark. It took shape from the thirteenth century, helped elect kings and imposed coronation charters limiting their power. After the Reformation it was made up of the high nobility alone. It was abolished in 1660, when Frederick III introduced absolute monarchy.
