Kalmar Union
The Kalmar Union was the personal union of Denmark, Norway and Sweden under a single monarch, created through the work of Queen Margaret I and sealed by the coronation of Eric of Pomerania at Kalmar in 1397. Danish dominance provoked repeated Swedish revolts and long periods of rule by Swedish regents, and the union broke apart when Gustav Vasa was elected King of Sweden in 1523.
