Robert Sherley
Robert Sherley was an English adventurer who, with his brother Anthony, travelled to the court of the Safavid ruler Shah Abbas I at the end of the sixteenth century. He later served the shah as an envoy to European courts. The Sherley brothers assisted with Abbas I's military reforms, which created new corps of slave-soldier cavalry, musketeers and artillerymen paid by the crown.
