Rometta

Rometta is a hill town in the province of Messina in north-eastern Sicily. It was the last Byzantine stronghold on the island, holding out until 965, when its fall after a long siege completed the Arab conquest of Sicily begun in 827. The defeat of a Byzantine relief army near it in 964 sealed its fate.
