Royal Newfoundland Regiment
The Royal Newfoundland Regiment is an infantry regiment, now part of the Canadian Army reserve, raised as the Newfoundland Regiment in 1914 for the First World War. It fought at Gallipoli and on the Western Front and was nearly destroyed at Beaumont-Hamel on 1 July 1916. It was granted the title 'Royal' in 1917 for its service, a rare honour in wartime.
