Royal Palaces of Abomey
The Royal Palaces of Abomey are the complex of earthen palaces built by the kings of Dahomey at Abomey, in present-day Benin, from the 17th to the 19th century. Successive kings added their own palaces, decorated with painted bas-reliefs recording the kingdom's history and beliefs. The site was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 and houses a historical museum.
