Bight of Benin
The Bight of Benin is a bay of the Gulf of Guinea on the coast of West Africa, stretching roughly from present-day Ghana to the Niger Delta. In the era of the Atlantic slave trade it was known as the Slave Coast. The Oyo Empire's military pressure on Dahomey shaped the politics of the whole Bight of Benin coast, and many enslaved Yoruba were shipped from its ports to the Americas.
