Saint Catherine's Monastery
Saint Catherine's Monastery is an Eastern Orthodox monastery at the foot of Mount Sinai in Egypt, built by order of the Byzantine emperor Justinian I in the mid-sixth century. It is among the oldest continuously inhabited Christian monasteries and holds one of the great libraries of early manuscripts. Palimpsests from a cache found there in 1975 preserve the only known literary texts in the Caucasian Albanian language.
