Sana'i

d. c. 1131 · 12th century · Also known as Sanai, Hakim Sana'i, Sana'i Ghaznavi

Sana'i was a Persian poet of Ghazni who lived at the court of the late Ghaznavid sultans. After early panegyric verse he turned to religious and mystical poetry, and his Hadiqat al-Haqiqa, dedicated to Bahram Shah, was the first great Sufi didactic poem in Persian. Rumi and other later mystical poets acknowledged him as a master.
