Santiago Imán
Santiago Imán was a Yucatecan militia officer who led a federalist revolt against Mexico's centralist government in 1839–1840, starting at Tizimín. He recruited Maya peasants with promises of lower church fees and taxes, and his success restored Yucatán's autonomy, leading to its declaration of independence in 1841.
