Sattar Khan

1868–1914 · 19th century

Sattar Khan was a leader of the Iranian Constitutional Revolution, a former horse dealer from Tabriz who organised the city's defence after Mohammad Ali Shah closed the Majlis in 1908. His fighters held Tabriz against royalist forces for about ten months, keeping the constitutional cause alive until Tehran was taken in 1909. Honoured as Sardar-e Melli, the National Commander, he died in Tehran in 1914.
