Saul
Saul was, according to the Hebrew Bible, the first king of Israel, a man of the tribe of Benjamin anointed by the prophet Samuel who ruled from Gibeah, traditionally in the late eleventh century BCE. He fought the Philistines, Ammonites and Amalekites, quarrelled with Samuel and with his commander David, and died with his sons at the Battle of Mount Gilboa.
