Saxe-Merseburg
Saxe-Merseburg was a duchy created in 1656–1657 for Christian, a younger son of Elector John George I of Saxony, and centred on Merseburg on the Saale. It was one of three Albertine secondary lines, with Saxe-Weissenfels and Saxe-Zeitz, whose dukes remained under the sovereignty of the electorate. When its line died out in 1738, the territory reverted to the Electorate of Saxony.
