Saxons (people)
Saxons here refers to the inhabitants and forces of the Electorate of Saxony in early modern Germany. Saxony was involved in the wars of the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, including the Great Northern War, in which its elector Augustus II, also King of Poland, opposed Sweden. Accounts of the Swedish Empire mention the Saxons among the opponents of Swedish military power.
