Scottish Reformation Parliament

1560 · 16th century · Also known as Reformation Parliament of 1560

The Scottish Reformation Parliament met in Edinburgh in August 1560, after the Treaty of Edinburgh had removed French and English troops. Without the consent of the absent Mary, Queen of Scots, it abolished the pope's authority in Scotland, forbade the celebration of Mass and adopted the Scots Confession of faith drafted by John Knox and others, establishing Scotland as a Protestant kingdom.
