Scottish Highlands
The Scottish Highlands are the mountainous north and west of Scotland, beyond the Highland Boundary Fault. Home to Iron Age peoples recorded by Ptolemy and later to the Gaelic-speaking clans, they kept a distinct culture into modern times. Evictions during the Highland Clearances of the 18th and 19th centuries sent many Highlanders to Canada, including Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.
