Second Fitna
The Second Fitna was a period of civil war in the Islamic caliphate from 680 to 692. It began after the accession of Yazid I and included the death of Husayn ibn Ali at Karbala and the rival caliphate of Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr in Mecca. Accounts of the Umayyad Caliphate describe how the Marwanid branch of the Umayyads emerged victorious and consolidated the dynasty.
