Seven Sealands

Also known as Seven Frisian Sealands

The Seven Sealands were the self-governing coastal lands of medieval Frisia between the Zuiderzee and the Weser, which formed a loose league during the Frisian Freedom. Their delegates met at the Upstalsboom near Aurich to settle disputes and agree common laws, the best known being the Upstalsboom statutes of 1323. The number seven was more traditional than exact.
