Shabaka

d. c. 705 BCE · 8th century BCE · Also known as Shabako

Shabaka was a king of Kush and pharaoh of the Twenty-fifth Dynasty, who ruled in the late 8th century BCE. Succeeding his brother Piye, he conquered the Delta, ended the Twenty-fourth Dynasty of Sais and made Memphis a royal residence, uniting Egypt and Nubia under Kushite rule. He restored temples, and the Shabaka Stone, which preserves an ancient Memphite theological text, was carved on his orders.
